Carmel, Tulip win contest Monday, August 13, 2001

AHMEDABAD: The Indian Society of Remote Sensing - Ahmedabad Chapter (ISRS-AC) and Tulip School jointly organised a project exhibition on Saturday on the eve of the birth anniversary of late Vikram Sarabhai.

The theme of the project exhibition was 'Space Technology for Improving Quality of Life'. Eleven schools participated with their projects. The first prize in secondary section was won by Mt Carmel School while the second prize was won by Tulip School and Ekalavya School. In the higher secondary section, the first prize was won by Tulip School.

ISRS-AC was found in 1983 to promote use of remote sensing technology in Gujarat and bring awareness of the immense potential of this technology among officers, academicians and students by way of organising various programmes.

The function started with welcome address by Nashy Chauhan, the director of Tulip school. Dr Shailesh Nayak, the chairman of ISRS-AC, briefly spoke on National Remote Sensing Day and the activities of the society while N S Mehta, the secretary of ISRS-AC, delivered the vote of thanks on the occasion.

Chaudhary urges party workers to get united Monday, August 13, 2001

SURAT: Opposition leader and GPCC president Amarsinh Chaudhary urged the party workers to get united for strengthening the party in view of the next Assembly elections. He was speaking at a function organised to felicitate new president of Surat district panchayat on Saturday at Vyara. Chaudhary later attended a seminar on textile industry's prospects in the city.

Computerised registration of police cases Monday, August 13, 2001

SURAT: The city police will launch a fully computerised 'public assistance centre' on August 15 that will register the complaints and also provide information about the redressal status of cases.
According to a press note, the computerised system will endeavour to maintain transparency in police investigations and also to provide assistance to the common man for filing the cases.

Seminar held by SGCCI Monday, August 13, 2001

SURAT: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) held a seminar on impact of anti-dumping on the export and import sector on Saturday in the city.
According to a press note, a number of industrialists attended the seminar, and the speakers included experts from the Central government and industrial associations.

Woman dies in road mishap Monday, August 13, 2001

SURAT: In a tragic incident, a woman while going on a scooter with her husband was crushed to death by a truck on Friday near Udhana.

Following the incident, an enraged crowd set afire the truck and also damaged a nearby transport godown.

According to police, Shivram Patel along with his wife, Nathiben, were going on a scooter when a truck hit them. Nathiben fell from the scooter due to the collision, and consequently the front wheel of the truck went over her body. She was rushed to Mahavira Hospital, but was declared as brought dead by the doctors on duty.
Shivram also sustained injuries in the accident. However, the truck driver fled from the scene and is absconding.

Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
