24 watchtowers set up to monitor Rathyatra Friday, June 22, 2001

Ahmedabad, June 21: In order to maintain the law and order situation during the Rathyatra, the city police has made all necessary arrangements. Other than the city police staff, 38 companies of the State Reserve Police and three companies of Rapid Action Force have been deployed and in the entire operation 38 wireless sets would be used.
To ensure effective monitoring of the event, the city police has set up 24 watchtowers.
Meanwhile the city police commissioner, Mr P.C. Pande, has hailed the decision of the various akharas in the city to abstain from the Rathyatra celebrations in the wake of heavy destruction caused by the earthquake.
Necessary arrangements have also been made to regulate the traffic in the city during the procession. In order to maintain law and order in the city the commissioner has appealed to the public to cooperate For the first time, arrangements have also been made to view the Rathyatra on the Internet.
