Fire in factory, four serious Thursday, November 15, 2001

AHMEDABAD: A massive fire partially gutted a dye manufacturing unit in the Naroda GIDC premises on Wednesday, injuring four workers seriously. The fire broke out at around 2.30 pm in a shed in the solvent recovery plant of Phoenix Petrochem _ a part of Dalal enterprises.
According to inspector K K Mysorewala, the fire damaged raw materials and machinery worth around Rs 40 lakh. Mysorewala investigating the case told TNN that the fire occurred when acidic fumes emitted in the process came in contact with a live electric wire. The factory, located in plot No. 7 of the GIDC, manufactures textile dyes for which solvent is used as a base.
The four persons who suffered serious burns have been identified as Govindbhai (40), Natwarbhai (45), Jogeshwarbhai (30) and 27-year-old Sanjaybhai. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital. They were believed to have suffered around 60 per cent burns.
Ahmedabad fire brigade chief fire officer Bipin Jadeja said the entire shed, spread over 7,000 sq metres, was gutted along with another which also was partially burnt.
Owner of the factory Tushar Dalal rushed to the spot to assess the damage.
A case will be filed only after forensic examinations, police sources said.
