PIL against govt on Madhavpura bank issue Saturday, May 5, 2001
VADODARA: The Gujarat Senior Citizens Federation (GSCF) and the Association of Consumers of Banks filed a public interest litigation against the state government on the Madhavpura bank issue.
The senior citizens have appealed to the Court to give directions to the administrators of the Madhavpura bank and the state government to ensure timely payment of premium. The petitioners have further prayed that even if the scheme for revival of the bank is worked out, efforts should be made to protect the rights of the insured depositors.
The petitioners said that in case of failure to revive the bank, the interests of the individual depositors should be protected. The court has noted the views of the petitioners and asked them to remain present on June 28 the next date of hearing when other similar PILs would be heard said GSCF secretary Praful Desai.
