Telephone users to get new facilities Friday, November 9, 2001

News Source : Times News Network
AHMEDABAD: If you are a busy person and want to move out of your house for a few hours, the telephone department would
ensure that you do not miss any important calls.

Like the cellular phone service providers, the Ahmedabad telecom department also offers the call diversion facility to its subscribers, whereby the calls coming on a personal telephone will be re-directed to a desired number. This facility is among the many services that the department is offering to its subscribers.

The service is also effective for those having two connections and one of them is connected to the Internet. "To ensure that no important call is missed, the calls on the busy line can be diverted to the other" said PK Bansal, a senior Telecom official of the district.

Bansal said the department will have a strong marketing team shortly which will cater to the needs of the customers. "People will not have to visit telephone offices for new bookings as agents will be available at their residences once they place their bookings over the phone," said General Manager (development) AK Bhargava.

The department has also tied up with the ICICI to facilitate payment of bills using the Net in the next two weeks, Bansal said.

Facilities like call waiting and setting alarms have been available for quite sometime but the users were unaware of it. The department has also introduced abbreviated dialling system, whereby frequently used numbers, including STD and ISD numbers, can be stored in coded form. The numbers can be accessed using just two or five digits.

Informing that the next telephone adalat will be held by the GM West shortly, Bansal said a new number, 1094, has been activated to attend to customer complaints. Another new number, 5511100, has also been started to be used for reconnection of disconnected telephones. "Once the bills are cleared, the customers can dial the number and get the connection restored" Bansal said.
