MMCB issue taken up at BJP Lok Darbar Monday, August 20, 2001

AHMEDABAD: A delegation of depositors of Madhavpura Mercantile Co-operative Bank made a strong representation for revival of the bank before minister of state for home Haren Pandya at a Lok Darbar held by the BJP for Navrangpura ward of Ellisbridge constituency - represented by Pandya in the state Assembly.

The depositors pleaded to Pandya that he should take up the matter with chief minister Keshubhai Patel and see that the much-awaited notification regarding revival of the bank as per the package with RBI is issued at the earliest. Pandya assured them that he would do the needful.

Some delegations also pressed for compensation which they had not received even after having registered their cases with disaster management authority for financial help. Some other residents made complaints to the minister about civic apathy in Navrangpura, to which Pandya assured them of redressal of their grievances.

A group of people from Naranpura pressed for release of an anti-social person detained by the police under PASA, to which minister flatly refused saying that it was not possible as the arrest was made only after several complaints were made against him by the residents of the area.
