Former home guard held for theft Sunday, May 27, 2001

Ahmedabad. May 26: After surveillance for around seven days, Khadia police on Friday morning caught a person involved in stealing cycles from the Manek Chowk area. Thirty-three year old Mukesh alias Bhottu G Datania, a resident of Kidi Pada Ni Pole, Shahpur, on interrogation confessed of having stolen 20 cycles in all.

He was a former home guard and since the last ten months he has not been getting work. Since he did not have money to buy brown sugar, he started stealing cycles from the neighboring areas.

He told the police that he wore the home guard uniform while stealing cycles from various places. Khadia police has recovered all the stolen cycles. Ahmedabad: A 21-year-old married man committed suicide by jumping into the Kankaria lake on Thursday.

After initial investigations, the man was identified as Naresh Lodha. Naresh was married according to the customs of his community but his wife did not live with him. She was going to be sent to his house after Diwali festival but Naresh wanted her to live with him immediately.

Since this request was not fulfilled, he committed suicide. His body was taken to L G Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
