Course for small business consultants opened at EDI Wednesday, December 5, 2001

AHMEDABAD: A three-month national programme titled 'Certificate Course to Develop Rural and Small Business Consultants' was inaugurated at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) on Monday. The programme, which will continue till February 22, 2002, is sponsored by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). The chief guest for the inaugural function was Harsh Kaul, General Manager, SIDBI. Through this progrmme, EDI aims at developing a cadre of development consultants and equipping them with skills that are critical for the functioning of NGOs and the execution of income generation, and economic development programmes. These trained consultants would provide necessary professional advice and support in various ways to ensure an upsurge in the economic development. The trained consultants would give a boost to the development of rural and small industries and clusters, streamline the operations of NGOs, assist donor agencies with regards to assessing capabilities of NGOs, appraising their proposals, carrying out project monitoring and evaluation, and also help individual entrepreneur in small business counselling. This programme has 25 participants who were selected (out of 60) by conducting behavioural tests. These participants represent 12 states of the country, namely Manipur, Uttranchal, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Chattisgarh, Assam and Rajasthan.News Source : The Times of India [India's best Newspaper]
