Trader held for selling adulterated edible oils Saturday, June 30, 2001

Ahmedabad, June 26: The Sardarnagar police caught Suresh S. Modi for making and selling adulterated edible oil for past two years from his shop Shreeji Traders and Modi Electronics, which are housed opposite Noblenagar Mahadev Chowki. This was discovered by the police when they raided the place on June 25.

Police confiscated stickers of well-known oil companies, 24 oil tins (16 kgs capacity), soyabean oil, equipment used for packing oil tins, tin covers, two scooters and Rs 16,000 cash. Totally the confiscated items are worth Rs 52,176.

Sardarnagar police has booked Mr Modi under section 3 and section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act. Police has also intimated the Civil Supplies Department and the Municipal Health Department about the seizures.

Modi bought groundnut oil from the market and then removed about 5 to 7 kilos from it and replaced it with either palmolien oil or soyabean oil and stuck the stickers of well known oil companies and sold then at various places at Kubernagar, Naroda and Nana Chiloda.

He then sold them to small traders and has been doing this business for past two years. Police inspector M.P. Patel is investigating the case.
