Cashier cheated Pragati Co-operative bank Thursday, October 18, 2001

AHMEDABAD: A cashier of The Pragati Co-operative bank's Relief Road branch allegedly cheated the bank of Rs 88.25 lakh by replacing the bundles of five-hundred rupee notes with hundred rupee ones.

Bank manager Rajendra Amrutlal Saheba lodged a complaint at the Kalupur police station against head cashier Gaurang Kantilal Shah stating that he had changed the notes during banking hours before October 13 when the crime was detected.

Since the safe was under his custody, Saheba alleged that the cashier not only defrauded the bank of Rs 88 lakh but picked up another Rs 25,944 from the safe and cheated the bank.

Satyam residents cheated: Residents of Satyam apartments have complained that Vijay Vora alias Bhikhabhai Dhanjibhai Prajapati had cheated them of Rs 1.21 lakh. A resident Dashrath Ankhaldas Maheshwari in a complaint with the Vatva police accused Prajapati of having collected Rs 1.61 lakh from the residents on the pretext of restoring their electricity connection. Prajapati then paid Rs 39,075 against the pending bill and took away the balance.

Bootleggers jailed: Four bootleggers arrested by the crime branch recently for illegally operating a production and bottling plant of IMFL in Sabarmati were booked under PASA and sent to different jails. The accused are Mahesh Rasiklal Shah, Khivsingh Nathusingh Rajput, Nandkishore Swadhansingh Rajput and Pratapsingh Buddhsingh Rathod.
Navratri combing: The police checked over 3,000 vehicles, 133 hotels and guest houses, 35 public gardens and 33 railway and bus stations on Tuesday night as a part of the combing operations for the ongoing Navratri.
