Company sells 1000 handsets in four days of launch Sunday, June 3, 2001

Ahmedabad, June 2: Around 1000 portable handsets of WiLL network have already been delivered in just first four days since inauguration of the Network by Union communication minister Tapan Sikdar and chief minister Keshubhai Patel, on May 26.
The WiLL network at present operates through its three base transceiver systems or towers that are situated at Railwaypura, Vastrapur and Naranpura. The network covers around 80 per cent of the area of Ahmedabad that falls under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
“The WiLL network provides two types of services, fixed wireless telephone, which has a range of of five kms and portable handset, which has an indoor range of two kms and outdoor range of five kms,” said the general manager of transmission, Mr Ranjan Datta.
However, Mr Datta also added that, “Our experience shows that the range of fixed wireless telephones can go up to 15 kms and that of portable handsets can go up to seven kms outdoors.”
While commenting on the increasing demand of portable handsets, he said that the total limit of the exchange at present is 5000 connections, and out of that 75 per cent of the connections are given to the subscribers of fixed wireless telephones and the remaining 25 per cent are for the subscribers of portable handsets.
Out of the 75 per cent connections to the subscribers of fixed wireless telephones around 200 connections have already been given and 500 applications are being processed and will be given the connection shortly.News Source : The AsianAge Ahmedabad Edition [ The coolest Newspaper for city ]
