New V-C for more vocational courses Wednesday, June 27, 2001

Ahmedabad, June 26: The Gujarat Vidyapeeth might undergo a revolution with the appointment of Navinchandra Barot as its new vice-chancellor. “I would promote vocational courses in the university so that increasing number of people can seek employment,” he said adding that he might give a go-ahead to vocational courses for women at a centre in Shahibaug soon.
Barot feels that the western-system of education is a must for the success of any candidate. “As per one’s qualification, a candidate should be guided to take up courses in academics or vocational skills. That would increase the efficiency of a candidate,” he says.
Barot even disclosed his ambition to ascertain that the Gujarat Vidypeeth be granted the status of a university in near future. Presently, the Vidyapeeth enjoys the status of a deemed university.
Although a Gandhian himself, Barot strongly feels that Gandhian principles are seldom put to use these days. “We have to consider this fact holistically and cannot blindly follow the principles. I believe that any education that does not enable the youth to seek employment is useless.
I could say this because during my involvement with the Majoor Mahajan Sangh, I have come across thousands of people who are going without employment despite their degree and postgraduate degree certificates.”News Source : The AsianAge Ahmedabad Edition [ The coolest Newspaper for city ]
