Thursday, August 30, 2001: The streets of Ahmedabad are now quiet but tense. Last night a person was killed in police firing. The incident occurred in the old part of the city when members of two communities clashed with each other. Police had to resort to firing and stone pelting to disperse the crowd.
Curfew had been imposed in the area but has been lifted now. There have been sporadic outbreaks of communal violence for the past few days, last week there was tension in the Dariapur area of the city when a bandh was called by a minority community organization.
