Houses allocated to quake-hit villagers Thursday, December 13, 2001

BHUJ: Governor Sundarsinh Bhandari has complimented the people of Kutch for fighting against all odds after the earthquake. He was speaking at a function to mark allotment of houses, constructed by the Ramakrishna Mission at one of the worst-hit village Dhaneti of Bhuj taluka on Tuesday.

Bhandari stated that education and health were two main priorities in Kutch, particularly in the quake aftermath.

Ramakrishna Mission has built 210 houses for the people at Dhaneti village which is world famous for its embroidery handicrafts. The mission has spent over Rs 3 crore in various quake relief works. Besides Dhaneti village, two sites have been identified by the mission for the construction of 160 houses, said a spokesman adding Rs 15 crore would be spent in construction of 75 primary schools in earthquake affected areas of the state.

Dhaneti wore a festive look following opening of Ramakrishna Nagar near the old village, on Bhuj-Bhachau Highway, 25 km from Bhuj as most of the beneficiaries of the new houses were Ahirs and they were all in their traditional costumes.
