Congress leader killed in road mishap Sunday, December 2, 2001

AHMEDABAD: Senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha member Haroobhai Mehta and his driver were killed on the spot and his brother injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck at Madhiya-San road in Bhavnagar district late on Saturday night.

The mishap occurred when the car in which Mehta (70), with brother Mahendra and driver Moin Pathan, was proceeding to Bhavnagar, collided with a truck from behind when the truck driver suddenly applied breaks, police said here on Sunday.

Mahendra received injuries on his hand and was later moved to a hospital, they said.

A lawyer in Gujarat High Court, Mehta was later elected to the Lok Sabha from Ahmedabad on Congress ticket and was known for his social and NGO activitives in the state.
