Demolition drive in Rajkot likely from Tuesday Friday, December 14, 2001

RAJKOT: The much-awaited demolition here could begin on Tuesday, said highly-placed sources in the civic body but without revealing the where and how of the operation.

The estate department has sought police protection. As the police cover is not available till December 17 in view of the Id, the drive has been planned from December 18.

The source, however, declined to identify the area to be covered on the first day. "No one would be spared, whether a premises belonged to the BJP or the Congress ", he said.

During the past operation, it was alleged that the civic body had targeted only the small encroachers and let go the bigger sharks.

Meanwhile, the civic officials began shifting the old Khadpith to to Bapunagar area to make way for a better and wider road after the traders lost their case in the sessions court. There were 104 traders in the Khadpith.
