Security intensified at vital installation in S. Gujarat Friday, December 14, 2001

SURAT: All vital installations at Hazira, Ukai and Kakarapar have been put on high security cover in the wake of attack on parliament on Thursday.

Elaborate security measures have been put in place by the city and the district police in co-ordination with the internal security forces of the industrial units, both in public and private sectors, here.

According to police commissioner Vineet Kumar Gupta, all the checkposts have been put under strict vigil and all senior officials have been instructed to be on round, particularly in sensitive areas.

Following the intelligence inputs from higher authorities after the New Delhi incident, all the nakabandis have been strengthened and police patrolling has been intensified, Gupta said.

Elaborating, he told TNN the anti-social elements sometimes have evil designs and take advantage of a situation like the one in the wake of Delhi episode and some even resort to act desperate acts to show sympathy with the miscreants. So adequate measures have been initiated to thwart such evil designs.

Gupta said all the industrial units at Hazira had been directed to beef up their internal security, after the terrorist attacks on the WTC. Now they have been told to be more vigilant.
