Valuables worth Rs 94,000 burgled from flat Sunday, December 2, 2001

SURAT: Some unidentified persons broke into a flat in Amardeep Apartments at Katargram and decamped with valuables worth over Rs 94,000. According to the police, house owner Jitendra Kiran Chand Surana was not there when the incident occurred.

Four die in tempo-truck collision Sunday, December 2, 2001

SURAT: Four persons were killed and seven injured when the tempo in which they were travelling rammed into a truck on Thursday near Uchhal. According to the police, both the drivers died on the spot. The tempo was ferrying labourers. All the injured were rushed to a hospital.

Man murdered; police clueless about motive Sunday, December 2, 2001

SURAT: Some unidentified person murdered one Sailesh Golabahi Patel, a resident of Vishal Nagar Society at A K Road, by using sharp weapons. The police found the victim's body in a mutilated condition near Simada at Kapodara on Friday. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.

Hudco's Rs 721-cr loan to Guj water projects Saturday, December 1, 2001

NEW DELHI: Housing and Urban Development Corporation has sanctioned Rs 721.50 crore for five major projects on water supply and drainage in quake-affected Gujarat.

The bulk water transmission pipeline projects in Kutch, Rajkot and Jamnagar districts is estimated to cost Rs 953.61 crore, of which Hudco will provide Rs 721.50 crore, Hudco chairman V Suresh said in a statement.

Elaborating on the projects, he said Hudco would provide Rs 343 crore to bulk water transmission projects of Rajkot and Jamnagar, estimated to cost Rs 429.41 crore, while Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board would be the implementing agency.

The corporation would provide another Rs 95 crore to the water project of Tankara-Jamnagar estimated to cost Rs 135.50 crore. The project would be implemented by Gujarat Water Infrastructure Company.

Hudco would also provide 135 crore to the Maliya Bhachau Water Project estimated to cost Rs 169.11 crore.

The company would provide another Rs 124 crore for a project in Kutch estimated to cost Rs 177 crore.

Jamagar Municipal Corporation would get Rs 24.5 crore for a underground drainage system estimated to cost of Rs 42.37 crore.

Murderer asked to compensate victim's family Saturday, December 1, 2001

AHMEDABAD: Additional sessions judge Sonia Gokani on Friday sentenced Rajesh Harisinh Rajput of Saraspur to five years rigorous imprisonment for beating 42-year-old Baldev Vaghela to death in June this year and directed him to compensate the victim's family.

The court also directed Rajput to cough up a fine of Rs 25000, out of which Rs 21,000 will be paid to Vaghela's family. The victim is survived by his wife and three children.

According to prosecution, the complainant, Shivram Vaghela, brother of the victim, was informed on June 5 that his brother was lying injured at the Giridhar Mastar compound. He along with the wife of the victim went to the spot and found the victim, who had sustained severe injuries with a blunt object, dead.

Investigation revealed that the victim had an argument with Rajput three days prior to the incident.
